How Neurophysics Is Leading The Way In Injury Rehabilitation And Training (and healing me)

The past couple of weeks, to say the least, have been life-changing.  Everything that I thought to be true about my body and its management has somehow been turned on its head and new beliefs now form my existence.

After suffering from a sore shoulder since mid-2015, an MRI scan showed subscapular bursitis, A/C joint dysfunction and oedema on my clavicle – degeneration. For months I was going back and forth – resting, training, having treatment, cortisone shots and finally PRP therapy. It was starting to consume me and driving me nuts. I had forgotten how to relax my shoulder and how to use it properly without compensating for it in some ridiculous way. Basically I couldn’t shut off the mechanism to help it relax and heal. I was so used to having pain – I didn’t even know if it was real or not.

Losing hope and succumbing to the fact of a future of reduced shoulder mobility, out of the blue, a friend,  Leo Young introduced me to the world of Neurophysics. And I am forever grateful he did!

Stewart guided me through my 4-day intense program and helped settle me throughout our time with his calming nature. At times when emotions and anxiety start to bubble to the surface, it can be quite confronting but this is what this program is all about, the more we can bring to the surface the more successful the outcome. Stewart would reiterate that I was in a safe environment and I was quite comfortable in relaxing and bringing flow to my body. Some may say it is an extreme type of therapy but I refute that by saying if you told me not to ever paddle again or to have corrective surgery,  then that is rather extreme…

In a nutshell, my injury was an ‘attractor’ and all my thoughts and energies we being diverted to certain behaviours that are triggered by environmental stresses throughout my nervous system. Even though I would rest my shoulder, as soon as I returned to training – the association with pain and training (or anything that involved using my shoulder) was so strong I didn’t even know if it was truly injured or if it was in my head.  Bit a both I’m sure. This was apparently leading to a left brain hemisphere dominance which is corrected through specific exercises through the Neurophysics initial and rehabilitation program.


Now, you don’t have to have an injury to benefit from Neurophysics and it can alone be an exercise prescription to improve all aspects of life. Likened to doing ‘Tai Chi with weights’, after a comprehensive initial assessment of the client’s system, programs 1 and 2 utilize very low load resistance training to develop posture, control and awareness of how the client’s systems are interacting. Programs 3 to 7 involve progressively more challenging exercises and loads – all personalized to the individual’s needs. As progress is made and their systems upgrade, clients are able to handle stress and load more easily. Programs 3 to 7 can be integrated into an existing exercise regime if required.

The Ware K Health Trigger Process, developed by Ken Ware, is a highly effective advanced component of NeuroPhysics Training and Rehabilitation and where I believe the magic happens. There really is so much to understand about this approach of injury rehabilitation and way of training that it truly is breaking new ground. Already helping people such as triathlete Pete Jacobs with injury, John McLean – triathlete and rower who became a paraplegic after being knocked from his bicycle (After 25 years of being in a wheelchair, John started working with Ken and on day 4 he took his first unassisted steps…..) I saw for myself within the centre how people with brain and spinal injuries have started to use their limbs again with the hope of one day regaining their independence.


I’m now on program one and will continue with the premise that for my system to further upgrade, it needs to be in a constant state of adaption.  For me, this is an exciting time. They say, things appear for a reason and I believe the universe has presented this problem so I can further commit and come out stronger (mentally and physically).
