Each year I am privileged enough to travel to Melbourne to join other inductees at the Sport Australia Hall of Fame gala dinner. It’s Australian sports’ night of nights where outstanding achievements of the year and new inductees are welcomed into the club. I was inducted in 2007 as the first female to represent surf life saving. After a few stuff arounds with flights and transfers, I only had 20 mins to spare to get ready and iron my dress. I was lucky enough to borrow a dress off a good friend which fitted just perfectly (she has great taste;). I haven’t really worn orange before but it looked great in a sea of black suits.
It was a sell out night with 1000 people cramming into the crown casino main ballroom. I regard Melbourne as the nations top sport loving city so it’s fitting to hold such a grand evening to catchup with friends.
New inductees included Wayne Bennett, Andrew johns, Stephen Larkham, Adam Gilchrist, cyclist Kathryn Watt and rower James Tomkins. Sally Pearson scooped the ‘Don’ award for performance of the year with Susie O’Neill being elevated to Legend status.
Anything past 9.30pm is a late night for me so after a nice sleep in, and a quick swim in the hotel infinity pool, I checked out and hit the shops. I didn’t REALLY need anything but none the less I do like the opportunity to shop sans kids. I always end up gravitating to beach and exercise gear when what I do need is more smart clothes…oh well, next time!
Back home again now and tomorrow is another busy day with Ella’s 5th birthday doubling up on my brothers wedding day. Oh, and there is a local Stand up paddle race to fit in there as well as swimming lessons! Lots of memories, lots of pics and happy times to come.
Have a great weekend and i’ll check in again on Monday and fill you in on the wedding.
Oh, and I have posted today over at Kidspot Village Voices in regards to milk and how confusing it is these days knowing which one to choose, you can check it out here. If you missed my other Kidspot posts over the last couple of weeks, they can be found here, here, and here
